Nigerians using social media were shocked when the INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed that a recent flood in the state had affected more than 4,000 machines.

The credibility of the electoral body has been under scrutiny following the 2023 presidential elections, which some voters believed to be rigged. Yakubu reassured that, despite the flood, the electoral body is dedicated to conducting a transparent and inclusive electoral process, aiming for credible and inclusive elections. He emphasized that the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 2024 will run smoothly.

He stated, “We faced unfortunate flooding in our office in Edo State, which affected over 4,000 machines, but our technical staff were deployed, and we have already recovered over 3,500 machines.
“It appears to be an off-cycle election. We will request additional support from neighboring states, so we have sufficient machines. We will recover from the situation in Edo, and you can be confident that we won’t encounter any obstacles at all.”
