Angry youths took to the streets in Katsina state to express their outrage at the harsh realities they face in the country today.
They demonstrated as President Muhammadu Buhari began a two-day official visit to his home state of Katsina on Thursday, January 26th, to inaugurate some projects carried out by the state government, Aminu Bello Masari.
According to The Punch, his first day in the state was marked by a protest by youths decrying the country’s hardship.
The protest began shortly after noon, shortly after the President dedicated the Kofar Kaura Underpass in Katsina.
After Buhari left the area, the protesters caused a commotion at the Kofar Kaura Underpass, where they threw stones at the crowd.
The boys also set up bonfires along the Yahaya Madaki Way, a few metres from the underpass, while shouting: ‘We don’t need you,’ ‘We no go do,’ in Hausa.
Security personnel subsequently dispersed them with tear gas.
Meanwhile, Katsina State Governor Bello Masari declared a two-day holiday for the state’s civil servants.
Masari declared Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27 as work-free days for workers in order for them to show up in large numbers to greet President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari arrived in Katsina on Wednesday night, January 25th, after attending an international conference in Dakar, Senegal.
