Famous music producer, Don Jazzy, recollects an incident where he attempted to sell Mo’hits records, the record label he co-founded with Afrobeats music icon D’banj, for one million naira.
In a 2018 interview on Bounce Radio, Don Jazzy revealed that he made an unsuccessful attempt to sell the label, prompted by D’banj’s release of the track “Tongolo,” which brought him fame but didn’t yield the expected financial gain.
He confessed that their financial situation at the time influenced the decision to sell Mo’hits to Obi Asika, the label head and founder of Storm Records, one of the largest labels in Nigeria at that time.
Don Jazzy didn’t offer a reason for why the transaction didn’t go through, but it turned out to be fortunate for Mo’hits Records, which went on to achieve great success and attract a star-studded roster including D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr. Sid, D’Prince, and K Switch. Don Jazzy also established himself as a successful music producer and the head of a highly successful label.
