On Monday, March 27, a high court in Ikeja, Lagos state, sentenced a domestic worker named simply Joseph Ogbu to death by hanging.
The verdict came after Ogbu was found guilty of killing his employer, an 89-year-old grandmother named Adejoke John, and her daughter, Oreoluwa, at their home in the state’s Surulere area, according to The PUNCH.
According to The Nation, Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay handed down the verdict after finding the convict guilty of three counts of armed robbery and murder.
The Lagos state government filed the charges against him.
The defendant committed the crime on June 19, 2019, by strangling Ma Adejoke and stabbing Oreoluwa to death, according to the Daily Independent.
When he was arraigned on October 22, 2019, he pleaded not guilty.
