American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York, as a precautionary measure.
The 54-year-old artist, who was arrested on Monday, is currently facing federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. On Tuesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky ordered that Diddy be held in jail while awaiting trial.
On Friday, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told TMZ that the suicide watch was a standard protocol for “new, high-profile inmates.” Agnifilo, who spent six hours with Diddy at the facility on Thursday, assured that the rapper is not suicidal, describing him as “healthy, strong, confident, and focused on his defense.”
The duration of Diddy’s time under suicide watch has not been disclosed.
