Delegates at Thursday’s plenary, while considering the report of the Conference Committee on Civil Society, Labour, Youths and Sports, chaired by Bola Ogunrinade, unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation that death penalty be meted out to anyone found guilty of raping a minor.
They also unanimously agreed that any government official found guilty of embezzling public funds or monies meant for pensioners be given life imprisonment.
The conference also proposed 50 years imprisonment for any judicial officer found guilty of corruption or abuse of office and to be stripped of all official entitlements. Meanwhile, the Conference kicked against the committee’s recommendation to allocate 30 percent of decision making in the country to youths.
