Government Assures Support for Officers Acting Legally
Speaking to journalists at the National Defence College in Abuja during a briefing for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration, Badaru restated the Federal Government’s stance on protecting security personnel who carry out their duties within the law.
He said, “At the Ministry and across the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers performing their duties lawfully. Lieutenant Yarima has acted commendably, and we will ensure his safety.”
Badaru added, “We are thoroughly reviewing this matter, and I assure you that any officer performing legitimate duties will receive full protection.”

The defence minister’s statement comes shortly after a video captured a tense exchange between Wike and the naval officer at a building site in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
In the footage, Wike accused the officer of blocking access to the location while insisting that no individual is above the law. The officer stood his ground, explaining that he was acting on orders from his superiors.
The confrontation has sparked conversation nationwide, with many Nigerians praising the officer for maintaining his composure throughout the incident.
