Recent reports reaching us confirms that a day-old baby got missing from a private hospital in Umuahia, Abia State. It was gathered that the incident which took place last week Friday caused a lot of confusion at the hospital, because it attracted patients, visitors and lots of passers-by.
The mother of the baby, Mrs Uchemma Augustine, was said to have gone to have her bath, only to come back and find her baby missing. An account of what happened given by the nurses in the hospital, had it that an unidentified woman, claiming to be a sister to Uchemma, came to the hospital as early as 6:30 a.m to visit the mother and her baby, and allegedly ran away with the child.
It was gathered that the proprietor of the hospital, Dr Kalu Ibe, reported the incident to the Umuahia Central Police Station. The Police P.R.O, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the incident saying investigation is ongoing.
He said: “All the staff of the hospital are facing interrogation, but theres been no clue yet as to the baby’s whereabouts.”
