Davido has opened up about how his once-strong interest in politics has shifted, revealing that he is now more cautious about stepping into that space due to the potential risks to his reputation, career, and the goodwill he has built over the years.
Speaking during a livestream with streamer Davrel, the Afrobeats star explained that observing other entertainers struggle after venturing into politics has influenced his current perspective.
He noted that while he once considered a future in politics, the realities of the field and the value of his established career have made him rethink that path.
Davido said: “Before, I wanted to go into politics, but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful.”
He further added that politics is a profession that requires full commitment, suggesting that entertainers may find it difficult to transition successfully.
“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business.”
While discussing what he might have done if music had not worked out, Davido revealed an unexpected alternative, pointing to his interest in storytelling and film.
“I like movies. I like watching movies. I would have been a journalist.”
