Nigerian music star Davido recently shared that his American counterparts, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj, have a deep admiration for Africa, especially its music and culture.
In an interview with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta, Davido explained that both artists prefer blending Afrobeats into their collaborations with him, rather than sticking to traditional Western styles.
“My recent song with Nicki Minaj, ‘If It’s Okay,’ carries a strong Afrobeats influence because she wanted it to have authentic African vibes. These days, international artists are eager to incorporate our musical style, which makes collaborating with them easier,” Davido said.
When recording ‘Sensational’ with Chris Brown, Davido initially aimed for an American style, but Chris insisted on including Afrobeats and even encouraged Davido to sing in Pidgin. The video for the song featured Davido’s dancers as the video vixens, and they even joined Chris Brown on tour. Both Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj have shown great appreciation for African culture.
Chris Brown has collaborated with several African artists, including Davido, Wizkid, Rema, Fireboy, and Lojay, while also touring with Ayra Starr and South Africa’s Tyla. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, has worked with artists such as Mr. Eazi, Davido, and Skales.
