Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has explained his keen interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
According to NAIJALOG, voters turned out in large numbers across Edo State on Saturday to participate in the off-cycle gubernatorial election.
Davido has been vocal on X, criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for alleged irregularities during the election. His involvement raised eyebrows, as many questioned why he was so invested, given that he is not from Edo State.
Responding to the queries on his X handle, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was from Edo State, which explains his personal connection to the election.
He also added that, as a Nigerian, it is his duty to care about the electoral process. Davido recalled speaking out against INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election when his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, was running for governor.
The singer wrote, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun ! It’s really bad. God help us.”
Recall that Davido had earlier endorsed the PDP candidate Asuen Ighodalo for the Edo gubernatorial election via his Instagram account.
