The names of President Bola Tinubu’s candidates for ministerial positions might be revealed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio this week during a plenary session.
The precise date of the unveiling has not been made public, however the Senate (as well as the House of Representatives) hold plenary sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
There were rumors that the ministerial list would be revealed last week, but nothing of the kind occurred.
President Tinubu and all newly elected state governors must submit the names of their ministerial candidates or commissioner nominations to the National/State Assemblies for approval within 60 days after taking the oath of office in accordance with a new legislation put in place by his predecessor.
This suggests that by the end of July, the president must submit the names of ministry nominations.
The letter with the names of the ministry nominees reached the Senate President last week, according to insiders at the National Assembly quoted by The Punch.
However, they pointed out that certain alterations made at the last minute caused the reveal to be delayed.
The names will be read out this week, according to one of the individuals who is reportedly a legislator, who was unable to specify when specifically.
“The names of the ministerial nominees will be out this week,” the source was quoted as saying.
Another source cited by the newspaper also said the names would be unveiled this week, adding that many people would be shocked.
“The list of the nominees will be unveiled this week and I can tell you that the details will shock a lot of Nigerians. I mean a lot of big politicians will be thrown aback.
“This will be the real Asiwaju Tsunami,” the source added.
