The Department of State Service (DSS) has issued a fresh alert regarding a plot to thwart Bola Tinubu’s inauguration as president-elect on May 29.
The secret police then issued a warning to individuals it claimed were subversive forces attempting to obstruct Monday’s inauguration of Tinubu and the country’s newly elected governors.
This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday, May 25, by Peter Afunaya, the secret police’s spokesperson.
All uncredited and uninvited individuals are to avoid the event on Monday, according to the DSS.
It exhorted Nigerians, members of civil society, and the media to rigorously abide by the rules governing civility and security during the inauguration.
The statement reads in part:
“The Service is, however, aware of plans by subversive elements to disrupt the programmes in parts of the country. The aim is to undermine security agencies’ efforts at ensuring peaceful ceremonies as well as creating panic and fear among members of the public.”
