Bobrisky, the popular Nigerian crossdresser, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has been sentenced to six months in jail without the option of a fine. This comes following his abuse of the Nigerian currency during a recent celebration he attended. The judgement was passed by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos during a court proceeding held on April 12th. On April 5th, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Bobrisky in court on a six-count charge, which included allegations of abuse of the Naira and money laundering. While the money laundering charges were dismissed, he was convicted for Naira abuse after confessing to the crime. The court also ordered that he be remanded in EFCC detention in Lagos. Although the judgement was initially scheduled for April 9th, the court could not sit due to the April 9th to April 11th Eid-Fitri public holiday.
