Argentine legend Diego Maradona has been appointed ‘to work for a clean and transparent football’ with FIFA.
The controversial legend took to his social media account to announce his new position with the world’s football governing body, he wrote: “Now it’s official. Finally I can fulfil one of the lifelong dreams; to work for a clean and transparent Fifa alongside people who really love football.
“Thanks to all who have encouraged me to face this new challenge!”. A spokesperson from FIFA explained that the appointment is ‘in recognition of his outstanding and unique contribution to football.’
Maradona was on show in January as he hosted the FIFA Awards in Zurich alongside pretty actress, Eva Longoria and it appears a role with the glasshouse will re-write his place in the history books of the game due to his precedence with hard drugs amidst other controversies.
The Argentine who had earlier criticised former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, will now have the chance to play a key role as the football body starts a major clean up process under president, Gianni Infantino, who has rang up several changes since he came into power in 2016.
