The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has reportedly been instructed to leave the palace immediately by the Forum of Chiefs in Nigeria. This decision was announced by Chief Ameh Adaji, the Forum’s president, and Chief Danladi Etsu, its secretary general, on Wednesday, May 29. The forum of chiefs declared that Sanusi needed to leave the palace of the Emir to ensure peace and stability in Kano State. According to the forum, it is improper and unlawful to occupy a royal seat without the consent of the people. They cautioned Sanusi against taking any actions that could lead to trouble, violence, or humiliation, as they expressed their reluctance to have security personnel forcibly remove him. The Forum of Chiefs in Nigeria, the umbrella body of lower-grade traditional rulers in the country, has urged Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to vacate the palace as ordered by the Federal High Court. They emphasized the importance of Sanusi abiding by the law of the land and setting an example for others to follow. The forum also criticized Sanusi for allegedly returning to the palace through the back entrance, which they claimed had brought embarrassment to the Kano emirship among the committee of emirates.
