Nigerian content creator and streamer Shank Comics has sparked debate online after stating that comedians may actually be wealthier than many popular musicians.
Speaking during a livestream, he explained that the widespread belief that music stars are richer is largely shaped by their flashy lifestyles and constant display of luxury.
He went on to claim that leading comedians like Bovi Ugboma and Basketmouth are financially ahead of Afrobeats stars such as Asake, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
According to Shank Comics, while many musicians are known for showcasing expensive cars and extravagant lifestyles, comedians tend to prioritize investments and long-term wealth building over public display.
“I think there is more money in comedy than music. Bovi and Basketmouth are far richer than Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and other musicians, but they prefer to invest rather than buy cars.
“Comedians are very conscious of the future, so they invest more than they spend, and they don’t spend lavishly on luxuries.
“A lot of comedians can afford the luxurious automobiles Nigerian musicians are buying,” he said.
The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with many sharing differing opinions on the comparison between the earnings of comedians and musicians.
