Forty six-year-old Emmanuel Temeru (a football coach) allegedly took Margaret Usen, his 35-year-old pregnant girlfriend, to a maternity hospital in Abeokuta where she was given some herbal mixture to drink and bath with.
The police prosecuting officer, Inspector Philip Ugbodu, told the court that Usen’s health deteriorated soon after the herbal treatment and she died hours later.
The offence is contrary to Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State: Ugbodu said
The accused’s plea was not taken and he was remanded in prison, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned to June 6.
