Having the perfect wardrobe is every woman’s dream; the perfect clothes, shoes and all the right accessories. Putting together a great outfit is all dependent on the items you have in your wardrobe; the right ones mean you’ll always be well put together, otherwise too bad. I know it can be expensive to maintain your wardrobe and keep up with the latest trends, but some items are staples and keep your outfits stylish and chic. Last week, I gave you the low-down in the shoe department, today I will help you out by giving you a short list of items that will freshen your wardrobe and keep you looking chic no matter what.
1. A Tailored Blazer. In black, navy blue, or a nude shade; blazers are a must-have clothing item. A blazer can complete any outfit, and will never make you look overdressed. Pair a dark-coloured blazer with a pencil skirt or high-waisted pants to wear to the office, pick a fun-coloured one for a casual look paired with jeans. Accessorize with a statement necklace and shoes appropriate for the event.
2. Denim Jacket. A denim jacket is another must-have item, which looks good when worn the right way. You can even do a denim on denim outfit, a jacket with a darker pair of denim trousers for an afternoon out or even to a lecture. A denim jacket can also be worn over a crop top and body con skirt or over a maxi dress on a cold day.
3. White Shirt. In chiffon, cotton, silk, polyester or even wool; a white shirt is staple and can brighten an outfit in a flash. A white outfit is the go-to item for putting over a swimsuit at the beach. A white silk shirt in a black skirt or trouser is a great look for the office or even class. Fun and games are not complete without your white shirt, shorts and fancy sneakers. A white shirt can also be worn in various styles; as a t-shirt, a crop-top, a dress shirt or even a dress shirt. Make your choice, and have fun with it.
4. Printed Blouse. Next to a white shirt, a printed blouse is the next best thing. All the rave right now are the danshiki shirts sported by both guys and ladies; that is just one of the many varieties of prints out there. The ankara trend is still on and features so many different fun prints to choose from. A printed shirt looks great with jeans and sandals. It can also be tucked into black trousers and worn with a white blazer. How would you style a printed shirt?
5. The LBD. The little black dress also known as the LBD will never die. It’s been on the fashion scene for ages, and will always be because it’s just a magical piece of clothing that transforms any woman into a diva. (I’m not exaggerating.) A little black dress can be worn anywhere, all you need are the right accessories. Pair it with a white (or any colour really) blazer to the office. Put on a red air of platform pumps, and you’re ready to go out to dinner. Put on a denim jacket and a flat pair of shoes with a long pendant necklace, and the LBD will take you through your 2-hour lecture on Power electronics.
6. A black pair of trousers. Denim, cotton, polyester, corduroy (if anyone still wears that); a black pair of trousers are great for running about and carrying out your daily activities. Personally, I think black trousers are life-savers, right next to bobby pins and strapless bras. A black pair of trousers completes any top from crop-top to a dress shirt even that printed blouse in number 3. Just find the right coloured shoes, as suits the occasion, the right amount of jewelry and you’re good to go.
7. Pencil Skirt. Any woman can wear a pencil skirt. It’s chic, fresh and hugs you just enough to flatter you, but not too much to be indecent. A pencil skirt is perfect for work or class or even for a fun time out. Throw a crop-top over your pencil skirt and head out with your girlfriends. Wear a peplum top over your skirt with a nice pair of pumps, and Jesus will be glad to see you at Sunday (or Saturday) worship. Need I say more?
8. Comfortable Jeans, I stress the word comfortable. Nobody likes to see your crack peeking out, or your muffin top spilling over your jeans. So you must ensure that you get jeans in the right fit and shape for your figure; there’s so many to choose from. Everybody can’t look great in skin-tight jeans, so why not try those high-rise jeans with a flared bottom. Distressed jeans are also another stylish choice. Wear with a plain-coloured top and one-statement piece: your jeans already make a statement. You can never go wrong on casual Fridays with a fitted pair of jeans and blazer, finished off with an open-toe wedge. I could go on and on.
