American R&B star Chris Brown has been taken into custody by a UK court over a 2023 assault allegation, putting his European tour plans at risk.
The 36-year-old singer appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday after his arrest early Thursday at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester. Authorities say Brown was detained in connection with an incident that occurred on February 19, 2023, at a nightclub in Hanover Square, London.
He faces a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, following accusations that he attacked music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub in Mayfair during a UK tour.
Presiding Judge Joanne Hirst denied Brown’s request for bail and ordered that he remain in custody until his plea and trial preparation hearing on June 13 at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The court ruling has cast uncertainty over Brown’s upcoming performances, with shows scheduled in the Netherlands (June 8) and Germany (June 11) now in jeopardy. His European tour, which spans across UK and continental venues through June and July, may face major disruptions unless there are changes to his legal situation.
