During the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the 2024 governorship race in Edo State, chaos erupted when suspected political thugs disrupted the collation of results. The incident occurred at Rushville Hotel and Suite in GRA, Benin City, while results from eight local government areas had already been announced. The disruption occurred while journalists were covering the event live on TV. Despite the presence of the State Commissioner of Police and party officials, the thugs overpowered police operatives and seized election materials. Several journalists were assaulted, and their equipment was scattered.
