Nigeria was condemned to a shock defeat in its opening match at the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) holding in South Africa.
The match ended 2-1, though the Super Eagles match enjoyed better ball possession, they lacked panache.
Abdoulaye Sissoko opened scoring for the Malians in the 18th minute against the run of play with a well placed finish which he volleyed past Nigeria’s goalie, Agbim.
The first half fizzled out with little or no threats on goal from Nigeria.
Just when it seemed like Nigeria was getting its groove ,the Malians added a second goal through Adama Traore in the 50th minute.
Nigeria pulled one goal back through substitute Gbolahan Salami in the 54th, but the Malians ensured it was nothing more than a consolation goal as they kept the Nigeria tamed for the rest of the game.
