British rapper Oakley Neil Caesar-Su, widely recognized as Central Cee, has announced that he has converted to Islam.
The Band 4 Band hitmaker also revealed that he has changed his name following the conversion.
He made the announcement during a recent livestream.
“I just changed my name and took my shahada, I am a muslim now,” he said, as friends around him congratulated him in the video.
Before this announcement, Central Cee had never publicly confirmed belonging to any specific religion.
Central Cee was born on June 4, 1998, in London to an English mother and a father of Guyanese and Chinese descent.
After his parents separated when he was seven years old, he was raised by his mother alongside his two younger brothers in Shepherd’s Bush.
He started gaining attention in music after appearing on a now-removed episode of the Fire in the Streets series in 2014.
His first recorded feature was on the Ain’t On Nuttin Remix with J Hus and others in January 2015.
He later released his breakthrough track Day in the Life on June 14, 2020.
Since then, Central Cee has grown into one of the biggest names in the UK drill scene, achieving superstar status.
