The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Plateau Command, on Friday said it would impound any vehicle caught with covered number plates.
Sunday Maku, Plateau Commander of FRSC who said this at stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, warned vehicles owners against covering their numbers plate with coloured plastic.
“The plastic makes it difficult for my men to clearly see the number particularly in the night. We are warning those with such coverings to remove them or have their vehicles impounded.’’
The commander stated that the ban on the use of commercial motorcycles in Jos was still in force and warned those using commercial motorcycles in the city to stop it.
“We have observed that some commercial motorcyclists use to come out in the evenings to pick passengers.
“We are calling on them to desist from such act, or have themselves to blame when caught by law enforcement agents,’’ he said.
He advised leaders in areas where youths had gone back to the use of commercial motorcycles to warn them against such, stating that the ban was still on.
Maku also warned against wrong parking particularly during the yuletide stressing that any vehicle impounded as a result would not be released to the owner until after the festive period.
“If you park wrongly, we will impound the vehicle and will not return it to you until after the celebrations.
“This is because if we do, you will still commit the same or more offences that will endanger the lives of other road users,’’ he stressed.
Maku warned against driving under the influence of alcohol and advised motorists not to drive when drunk.
“Always remember to wear your seatbelt when you drive,’’ he advised.
