The Abia State Police Command has apprehended a butcher accused of attacking a customer by stabbing him in the neck with a pair of scissors after a dispute over the cost of meat.
The incident reportedly occurred at Orie Ugba Market on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, stated that the injured customer was immediately taken to the hospital and is currently recovering.
She said: “The Abia State Police Command is aware of the incident that occurred at Orieugba Market on 14/03/2026, where a meat butcher stabbed his customer in the neck with a pair of scissors following a disagreement over the price of meat,”
Police officers from the Central Police Station (CPS) in Umuahia were deployed to the scene as part of the response.
Chinaka added: “Operatives of the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia, have visited the crime scene.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment.
“The suspect is presently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.”.
