Burna Boy, a popular Nigerian musician whose real name is Damini Ogulu, expressed his frustration after receiving a BRIT plaque for achieving one billion streams in the United Kingdom two years late. The ‘African Giant’ artist was given a BRIT plaque during his sold-out show at London Stadium on Saturday night to acknowledge this accomplishment.
However, the singer objected to the award, pointing out that it was a belated recognition of a milestone he reached over two years ago. “What I want to know is why I’m being given this? Why not combine all of them and give me a bigger one? This happened two years ago; you guys should update, but I appreciate it,” he said. It’s important to note that he joins Wizkid as one of the few African artists with over a billion streams in the UK. In addition, Burna Boy holds the record for the African album with the highest peak on the UK chart, as his sixth studio album ‘Love, Damini’ reached the top of the chart in July 2022. After his sold-out show on Saturday, Burna Boy also became the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity London Stadium twice.
lmao, Burna Boy didn’t like the fact that he was getting a BRITs plaque for 1 Billion UK streams in 2024 when he already surpassed over 2 Billion UK streams since 2021. even the DJ nearly collect from ODG. 😂🤣 pic.twitter.com/ulA8Kjkncv
