Grammy-winning Afrobeats icon Burna Boy is currently under intense scrutiny in the United States as his No Sign of Weakness tour battles growing backlash, poor attendance and multiple cancellations, all triggered by a wave of controversies.

The uproar began on November 12 at his Red Rocks Amphitheatre performance in Morrison, Colorado, where Burna Boy abruptly paused the show to instruct security to remove a fan he accused of dozing off in the front row.

Footage from the moment quickly went viral, sparking widespread condemnation and criticism of his reaction.

The fan, later identified as Chaltu Jateny, explained that she had been emotionally overwhelmed following the death of her daughter’s father and attended the concert in hopes of lifting her spirits.

Her story drew massive sympathy online and intensified calls for Burna Boy to apologise.

Growing Impact on Tour Attendance

Just days after the incident, the controversy appeared to spill into his tour numbers. His November 22 concert in Houston showed noticeably empty seats, reigniting conversations about his attitude toward supporters.

During that show, another attendee was seen sleeping while Burna Boy performed, prompting fresh rounds of mockery across social platforms.

Critics also resurfaced previous comments from the singer, including a viral livestream where he stated he was only interested in fans “who have money,” a remark many say has deepened the negative sentiment now reflecting in ticket sales.

Amid the ongoing drama, two of his scheduled dates November 28 and December 1 were officially cancelled.

Celebrities React

The backlash has reached international figures as well. American rapper Eminem labelled the Colorado incident as “not cool,” while streamer Ryan Garcia commented that the shrinking crowds show that “life can humble anyone quickly.”

On social media, both Nigerian and foreign fans have urged Burna Boy to respond to the criticism and reflect on his behaviour.

However, others argued in his defence, stressing that his cultural influence remains unmatched. One supporter described Burna Boy as “too important to the culture,” saying he embodies the creative dreams of many young Nigerians.
