The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari once he assumes power on May 29 will purge the military of senior officers who are believed to have corruptly enriched themselves or “who abandoned professionalism for politics,” the Cable reports.
Quoting sources in the know of the plan, the online news medium says ‘a small group has been set up quietly to work out the modalities for the shake-up and scout possible replacements for those to be weeded out.’
Buhari believes that impunity and indiscipline being exhibited by the present cadre of senior military personnel needs to be nipped to return glory to the army.
Many charges of corrupt practices have been leveled against the Army’s top echelon.
