Last week, in custody Nnamdi Kanu saw his preferred personal doctor in an Abuja hospital.
Kanu, a leader of the Biafra separatist movement, was given permission to visit a doctor for the first time outside of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria’s secret police facility.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of Kanu’s attorneys, stated that the musician will soon go on to the next phase of his medical treatment for a health issue.
Abuja, FCT – The arrested leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly had his medical examination at his preferred hospital, according to attorney Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
Kanu underwent a medical examination on Friday, July 28, according to a statement made over the weekend by Ejiofor, the Premium Times reported on Sunday, July 30.
Ejiofor disclosed that his client and his personal doctor(s) met outside of the Department of State Services (DSS) building.
The attorney continued by saying that the medical examination of the IPOB leader went smoothly.
He stated that the evaluation would soon go on to the next phase.
He said:
“We are pleased to inform you that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu met with his choice personal physician yesterday (Friday) in a hospital in Abuja, outside the facility of the State Security Service (SSS).
“As part of the protocol, I witnessed the consultation. The medical examination was seamless and productive, and he (Kanu) will be progressing to the next stage soon.”This development follows a court order from a few days ago. Recall that a federal high court in Abuja recently commanded the DSS to provide Kanu access to the doctor of his choice while he was being held captive. According to the Daily Trust newspaper, Justice Binta Nyako ruled on Thursday, July 20, that Kanu is entitled to receive medical care from the doctor of his choosing as provided for under the Constitution’s provision on fundamental human rights. Ekpa was forewarned by Kanu “to make a public announcement to the effect that he (Ekpa) is in receipt of a direct order from him (Kanu) to cancel any pending sit-at-home in place at the moment” (to terminate any pending sit-at-home). He authorized Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, his special lawyer, to receive the order in a handwritten letter.
