A lawsuit filed by the deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu, to block the governor, Godwin Obaseki, and purported attempts to have him removed from office, has been dropped.
According to Naija News, Shaibu identified the Inspector General of Police, the State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, and the Chief Judge of Edo State as defendants in a circular dated September 5, 2023. This case was filed before the Federal High Court and has the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023.
The deputy governor disclosed in the circular that he withdrew the lawsuit after several discussions with Obaseki, well-meaning Edo residents, and Nigerians, including party leaders, traditional chiefs, and the archbishop of the Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.
The Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu wrote, “With due respect to these eminent personalities and leaders whose persuasions and persons I cannot ignore, I have authorized and instructed my Solicitors to withdraw the Suit forthwith.”
“I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to these well-meaning Nigerians, Party Leaders, Traditional Leaders, and my Archbishop, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze, for their kind words, counsel, and encouragement thus far in promoting peace and unity in our beloved State, Edo.
“I also wish to place on record my special thanks to Mr Governor, my boss and senior brother, for this path of peace.”
