The lawsuit brought by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) alleging Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of double nominating himself in the general elections of 2023 has been dismissed by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja.
An invalid nomination or duplicate nomination did not constitute as a reason for disqualification in regard to the presidential election as specified in sections 131 and 137 of the constitution, according to the panel’s chairman, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the lead judgment.
Additionally, he claimed that Mr. Ibrahim Masari, who the APC nominated as a stand-in (for the position of Vice President), was not a necessary party to the petition because he neither ran for office nor was declared the winner.
