The governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew throughout the region of the country.
For their own safety and well-being, the governor pleaded with the state’s citizens to abide by the 24-hour curfew.
The decision, according to Finitiri, was made as a result of an uptick in hoodlum attacks on civilians and establishments.
Adamawa State’s Yola – On Sunday, July 30, 2023, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri issued a curfew that will last for 24 hours in all 21 of Adamawa state’s local governments.
Fintiri explained the 24-hour curfew in a brief message posted on Sunday, July 30, via his verified Twitter account @GovernorAUF. He cited an increase in violence by hoodlums attacking citizens and establishments.
Only those doing necessary activities and possessing proper IDs would be permitted to move, the governor added.
Fintiri asked state citizens to abide by the 24-hour curfew order.
The statement reads::
“Effective immediately Sunday, July 30, 2023, I, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have declared a 24-hour curfew in Adamawa State due to escalating violence by hoodlums attacking people and businesses. No movement is allowed, except for essential duties with valid ID. Your safety is our priority – please comply for the wellbeing of all.”
On Friday, July 14, the petitioner formally retracted the plea, leading to the case’s dismissal during a pre-hearing session in Yola, the capital of the Adamawa state.
The Federal High Court in Abuja’s Justice Iyang Ekwo has dismissed the lawsuit brought by Senator Aisha Binani Dahiru, the APC’s nominee for governor in the recently concluded Adamawa governorship election.
The lawsuit was brought against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an effort to have the election results overturned. The PDP’s Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was proclaimed the winner.
