With few days to the commencement of the 2014 FIFA World Cup holding in Brazil, the issue of security has continued to be added to the concern of facilities not ready. A football fan was reportedly killed in one of the game’s stadium in Arruda, Brazil. The victim was identified as Paulo Ricardo Gomes da Silva who was reported to have engaged a group of opposing fans in a brawl.
The incident occurred at a match between Santa Cruz and Parana teams. In the wake of the incidence, the Pernambuco Arena stadium has been closed pending the completion of investigation to the riot.
Three other soccer fans were injured in the riot. With the nation hosting the rest of the world in less than two month, the growing concern is not just the readiness of the facilities but also the security of lives that will grace the mundial.
