After marrying seven women on the same day, Ugandan businessman Ssaalongo Nsikonenne Habib Ssezzigu made headlines online.
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Habib wed the seven women, some of whom were his biological sisters, in a lovely wedding ceremony at Bugereka Village in Mukono District.
Mariam, Madinah, Aisha, Zainabu, Fatuma, Rashida, and Musanyusa, who has been Habib’s first wife for seven years, are among the wives.
Blogger Caleb Canaan stated in a Facebook post that the event began at around 8 am, when the ladies were transported to nearby salons for styling before being seated in ready Super Custom vans with personalized license plates showing the names of each bride.
“After exchanging the marital vows, Nsikonnene, and his seven wives held a big procession led by boda boda cyclists, through the towns of Kalagi, Kasana, and Nakifuma before arriving at their home at 6 pm in the evening,”
he said.
The highlight of the wedding ceremony was a concert as the couples moved in a convoy amidst applause from people lined up on roadsides to witness the ceremony.
“Some people could not believe that it was real, others said that it was the first time they would be witnessing such an event,”
said Canan.
The polygamous Nsikonenne also bought brand-new cars as presents for each one of his wives.
At the reception, the brides found their seats prepared, each labelled with their names. In his speech at the reception, he commended his wives for being loyal to him.
“My wives harbour no jealousy amongst themselves. I introduced them separately and decided to wed them all at once to make one big happy family,”
he said.
He said that he will be adding more wives in the future.
“I am still a young man and in the near future, God willing, I cannot say this is the end of it,”
he added.
According to the groom’s father, Hajj Abdul Ssemakula, polygamy has been the practice in this family, adding that his grandfather had six wives separated by curtains in a single house.
“My own late father had 5 wives, and I myself have four wives who live in one house,”
he said.
It is said that Habib broke the record of marrying many wives in Uganda at once.
