Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugbomma, has shared a surprising aspect of his parenting journey, revealing that his son has broken multiple televisions out of anger. Despite this, Bovi remains a firm advocate of gentle parenting.
In an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast with Nedu, Bovi explained that he doesn’t believe in physically disciplining children. He highlighted his son’s growth, noting how he eventually became remorseful and stopped destructive behavior.
He said:
“I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son Chuchu used to break televisions for the fun of it. If he got angry, he’d throw something and break the TV. He’s broken three televisions. Thank God I had the capacity to replace them. If I couldn’t afford another TV, my approach would have been different.”
The comedian stressed the importance of allowing children to learn from their mistakes without resorting to punishment.
However, his remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians criticizing him for enabling bad behavior and encouraging a lack of emotional control in his child.
