KENYA – Five people are feared dead and eight others injured after an explosion occurred in Eastleigh neighbourhood in Nairobi.
Survivors of the two explosions which happened at about 1930 hrs local time said the explosions occurred in quick succession at a distance of approximately 200 metres from each other.
Peter Karuga, one of the survivors said that the explosion was a result of a grenade which was hurled a crowded place which consisted of motorcycle taxis (bodabodas) and green grocery dealers.
Among those who were hurt were customers.
Peter Karuga said he was on his way home when he heard the first explosion.
“I heard an explosion from the direction of the roundabout and I started running towards where the boda bodas were parked, the second one blast went off just near where I was,” he said.
He sustained injuries to his face and feet and was rushed to Mother and Child Hospital where seven others including women were rushed to for medical aid.
The explosion comes only a day after a suspected terrorist died when a device he was assembling exploded inside a flat in Eastleigh and just a week after the Mombasa church attack which killed six and left a child with a bullet lodged in his head.
