A tanker carrying gasoline and more than 15 commercial and private vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunday that claimed the lives of dozens of commuters using the Benin-Sapele.
While meandering through the awful section between Ologbo in Edo State and Koko in Delta State, the tanker is claimed to have fallen on its own.
It instantly caught fire and burst, razing neighboring cars that were snarled in the normal bottleneck on the broken road.
The catastrophe happened in the early morning hours on the day of Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary of independence.
Numerous people were reportedly burned to death while caught in the raging blaze, according to unofficial reports.
However, Mr. Udeme Bassey Eshiet, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Delta State, confirmed the tragedy and stated that eight victims were burned beyond recognition and seven others were injured.
Eshiet reported that 15 vehicles were involved in the collision and blamed the fuel explosion from the tanker that fell on its own as the accident’s cause.
Roasted victims’ bodies and the carcasses of burned-out vehicles were captured in a graphic video that quickly went viral.
The crumbling road, according to a voice on the video, has turned into a death trap for Nigerians, causing a national disaster.
The gridlock caused by the terrible road between Ologbo and Koko is causing fuel and diesel tankers to fail here. All pertinent authorities must pay attention to this national problem.
“People waste days traveling here when it should only take them 30 minutes. Due to the tanker explosion and the fire that engulfed everyone around, individuals are currently stranded.
The Benin-Sapele route is a horror, and Nigerians are dying in great numbers there. Commuters should receive assistance from the federal government. Help is needed.
Nigerians are no longer able to travel and go where they’re going. The bad will signal death if kidnappers don’t assault, the voice said.
