Prominent socialite Bobrisky has filed a ₦1.2 billion lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly, alleging a violation of his fundamental rights.
Bobrisky’s legal action follows a controversy sparked by activist Verydarkman, who shared an alleged audio clip in which Bobrisky purportedly claimed he paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dismissed.
Bobrisky was initially convicted on April 12 for naira abuse and sentenced to six months in prison but was released on August 5. Rumors later suggested he did not serve his full sentence.
Following these events, the National Assembly summoned both Bobrisky and Verydarkman for questioning. On Saturday, Bobrisky shared a court order dated October 10 on Instagram, which restricts the EFCC and National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.
In the lawsuit, he claims that the EFCC summoned him based solely on an unverified WhatsApp call shared by Verydarkman, leading to public ridicule, anonymous threats, and an invasion of his privacy.
Bobrisky is demanding ₦200 million from the EFCC for emotional damages and ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for denying him a fair hearing.
Bobrisky captioned …
“Notwithstanding the earlier filing of this fundamental rights matter the EFCC @officialefcc still violently assaulted and harassed me and pulled me out of a plane ✈️ set for takeoff 🛫. The EFCC and other security agencies in Nigeria 🇳🇬 are violators of human rights and it is high time the world 🌎 and the international community gets to know about their trademark of violation of freedom and rights. Without any order of court the minister of interior ordered the Nigeria 🇳🇬 Immigration Service and the Nigeria 🇳🇬 Police to arrest and detain me which lead to my worsening illnesses, then again the EFCC arrested and took me from their Lagos office to Abuja notwithstanding the pendency of this suit. It is a shame that the EFCC does not respect the court neither does any security agencies they act above the law which they claim to protect and implement.”
