Online excitement has been generated by a five-part docuseries called Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur, which examines the late rapper’s connection with his mother.
While many people seemed to like the event, Billy Garland, Tupac’s real father, claimed he did not.
Billy Garland claimed he is not a huge fan of the show since he believes he was duped, despite appearing in two of the five episodes. Garland, according to TMZ, said that the show’s producer and writer Allen Hughes did not fully explain the plot to him.
He added that he was never told that the program also included Afeni, Tupac’s mother. He stated:
“After I saw the interview in the documentary, I was slightly disappointed… I didn’t like it, to be honest with you. I thought it was more about something else than about Tupac if you know what I’m saying.”
The lyrics of Tupac’s song Dear Mama celebrate present-day moms and criticize missing ones. Billy Garland claimed he first disliked the 1995 hit song by his son because it depicted him as a coward and a dead man.
According to The American Songwriter, Garland claimed that he afterwards realized that his son had been misled and that he didn’t really know him.
“At first, I was upset because I’m trying to see you. But then it hit me, for one, I ain’t dead and so you really didn’t know me. Because if you would have known me, you would have known that I wasn’t dead. So I knew there that someone had lied to him from that point. So later on when I found out that someone did lie to him, that song made perfectly good sense. I understood it totally.”
