Prominent philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, has announced his plan to donate nearly all of his $200 billion personal fortune to the Gates Foundation by the year 2045, with a significant share earmarked for Africa.
This historic commitment is focused on tackling some of the world’s most urgent challenges, including reducing maternal and child mortality, combating infectious diseases, and alleviating poverty.
A large portion of the donation will benefit Africa, where the foundation has maintained a strong presence for over 20 years. During that time, it has supported more than 100 groundbreaking innovations and contributed to saving over 80 million lives on the continent.
While the pledge has received widespread acclaim, it has also sparked conversations around the growing impact of billionaire-led philanthropy on shaping global agendas and public policy.
