Abductors of the clan head of Ikarama, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, King Richard Seiba, the Ibedaowei have demanded a N30 million ransom in exchange for his release.
The 70-year-old monarch was kidnapped on Saturday, at around 2 a.m. in the morning by four unknown gunmen.
A source close to the family said that the monarch’s abductors made the ransom demand on Monday.
The source said: “Since this incident occurred, the wife has not been able to sleep. She was at the palace with some community elders when someone called and said he was part of a gang holding Seiba hostage since Saturday when he was abducted around 2am. He said we must provide N30m ransom for the monarch to be freed,” he said.
The monarch’s wife, Mrs. Evelyn Seiba, who witnessed the abduction of her husband, who is very dispirited was given the opportunity to speak with the septuagenarian when the call was made, to dispel the rumour that he had been killed.
