Ayra Starr, a Nigerian singer, is receiving criticism on social media for shaking hands with King Sunny Ade, a veteran juju musician, and other notable dignitaries.
A Twitter user with the handle @gemyoruba shared a video of the incident and called out Ayra Starr for her actions.
King Sunny Ade, a legendary Fuji singer, was also present in the video.
In the footage, Ayra Starr was introduced to the men who were seated close to Burna Boy’s mother.
As per the Yoruba culture and their honorary status, it was expected that Ayra Starr would kneel while greeting them.
However, the young artiste stood and shook their hands as a form of greeting.
This action has angered many netizens who believe that Ayra Starr was disrespectful and not a true daughter of the soil.
