Popular Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, is facing heavy criticism after she was seen singing and dancing to Naira Marley’s latest track, I’m Back, despite ongoing calls for his cancellation.
In the widely circulated video, Ayra Starr enthusiastically vibed to the song, repeatedly chanting “Marlians” while showing off her dance moves.
Her actions, however, did not sit well with many Nigerians, who condemned her for seemingly endorsing Naira Marley amid lingering controversies surrounding the death of his former signee, Mohbad.
Since Mohbad’s tragic passing, Naira Marley has been at the center of intense scrutiny, with accusations linking him to the late singer’s struggles. As a result, any public association with him has become highly controversial.
While some fans defended Ayra Starr’s freedom to enjoy any music of her choice, others expressed disappointment, with some even calling for her to be “cancelled” for supporting Naira Marley.
A social media user, @amakas_x, wrote: “Ayra Starr is expected to cancel an artist over allegations that he bullied another man to his death, yet when she spoke about men killing women, she was bullied for days. #mensproblemsmatter.”
Another user, @Uptown_Lagos, commented: “So Ayra Starr danced to Naira Marley’s new song, posted it online, and later denied it. She even claimed it was AI. What a joke.”
