Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi (Oguntade II) , who is also referred to as the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, has been confirmed dead. He died on Saturday evening.
It was gathered that the Oba who has been sick since May died in London around 7:30PM. He was in London to seek medical attention to his ailment which is yet to be ascertained.
Oba Oyefusi was born on July 8, 1931, and he ascended the throne to become the Ayangburen of Ikorodu in September 1971. He was the Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
Reacting to his death, Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, who described the late traditional leader as an epitome of discipline and integrity, said that the state would sorely miss the royal father and national merit award winner, who had contributed immensely to the development of the country, the state and the Ikorodu community.
Governor Fashola noted that the death of the paramount ruler, coming at this time, would surely rob the state of the great contributions and wisdom of the very humane monarch, who carried the interest of the state above all other considerations till he breathed his last.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the paramount ruler and for the Almighty God to grant the family he left behind, as well as his subjects and indeed the entire Ikorodu Community, the fortitude to bear the loss.
His death was confirmed by his P.A who didn’t give full details of the Oba’s demise. A detailed statement is expected from the palace of the late Oba either today or tomorrow.
His death was also confirmed via a statement from the Commissioner for Local Government and chieftaincy affairs.
With gratitude to God for a life well spent and in meritorious service to his people, Lagos State Government regrets to announce the passing on to glory of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Salaudeen Afolabi Oyefusi, OON which sad event occurred 2 August, 2014. He was aged 83. Funeral arrangement will be announced later.
