The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) called for an indefinite nationwide strike, but the workers unions in the Aviation industry have failed to participate. The Organised Labour directed its members to mobilise for the strike after the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, was assaulted. The TUC President, Festus Osifo, said the strike would continue until the governments at all levels take responsibility and directed its affiliates to implement the resolutions of the National Executive Council (NEC). However, the aviation unions are not participating in the strike yet. The General Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Comrade Ocheme Aba, said they might join the action in the coming days if the strike prolonged. The NUATE scribe explained that none of the aviation unions are joining the action immediately, but they would monitor the situation and decide later. The delay of the aviation unions to participate in the strike might be due to the planned Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NUATE, which will take place in Benin, Edo State capital, on Wednesday.
