The cause of death of Nigerian singer Destiny Boy, whose real name was Afeez Adesina, has been officially disclosed months after his passing.
According to reports, the 22-year-old artiste, who died on January 17, 2026, had initially sparked widespread speculation, particularly after videos from the scene surfaced online.
His family had earlier explained that he suffered from a long-standing medical condition that led to seizures, but fresh findings have now shed more light on the situation.
The Ogun State Police Command revealed that an autopsy conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department detected dangerous levels of tramadol and methamphetamine in his body.
The report concluded that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis linked to the intake of these substances.
Police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi also confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the case, while investigations continue.
Destiny Boy gained prominence in 2019 after his Fuji-style rendition of Davido’s song If went viral online.
He is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.
