The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Sokoto state has suffered a major setback following a mass defection of its members to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). The Nation reported that the new sets defected from the PDP are being completed by a PDP group known as the Ubandoma/Sagir Network and some other PDP members outside the group.
Some of the members of the group were identified as strong supporters of Sokoto state PDP gubernatorial candidate Malam Sa’idu Ubandoma and his running mate, Alhaji Sagir Bafarawa, according to the statement.
The PDP defectors were received by Alhaji Isa Sadiq-Achida, chairman of the APC chapter in Sokoto state.
While receiving the defectors, Sadiq-Achida vowed to treat them as equals and to provide them with the benefits of inclusivity. However, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, welcomed the defectors while reiterating the party’s commitment to inclusivity in party affairs. The defectors’ leader, Alhaji Ahmad Labaran, also stated that the APC has their full support and that they are eager to work for the party in order to compete for the governorship seat.
