Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has pledged his support for whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2026 presidential election.
Atiku emphasized that it would not matter whether he personally secures the party’s ticket or not, stressing that unity within the party is the ultimate goal.
Speaking at a welcome ceremony in Lagos for new defectors from the Labour Party (LP) and ADC into the coalition, Atiku represented by Prof. Ola Olateju said the choice of presidential candidate will strictly be decided by the party through a transparent and credible primary process.
“It is not something we can predetermine. Whoever emerges through free and fair contests, we are all going to support,” Atiku assured.
He further noted that all aspirants would be given equal opportunities, with no imposition of candidates.
According to him, the party’s eventual flagbearer will stand as a true representative of Nigerians ahead of the polls.
Among the leading contenders for the ADC presidential ticket are former governors and past presidential aspirants Chibuike Amaechi, Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar himself.
