The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to mobilize its members nationwide for a mass rally on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, the union’s Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, explained that the rally is aimed at pressuring the Federal Government to meet ASUU’s long-standing demands.

Egbedokun described the demonstrations as the union’s first major step in response to the government’s persistent inaction, stressing that the rallies serve as a warning of what could follow if the issues remain unresolved.

He revealed that the protests will take place simultaneously across universities in the country, with all academic activities suspended during the rallies.

According to him, ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given the government until its August 28 meeting to respond, after which the union will decide its next steps.

“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit.

If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, then it must bear the consequences of the storm that will follow,” he warned.
