According to the Academic Staff Union of institutions (ASUU), Nigeria’s educational system would be impacted by the federal government’s decision to dissolve the governing councils of all federal institutions in the nation.
While criticizing the FG’s action, ASUU warned that if left unchecked, such a decree might destroy the nation’s university system.
Following an instruction from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National institutions Commission (NUC) disbanded the governing councils of all federal institutions in June.
Chris Yilgwan, the head of the ASUU at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), commented on the development and called it “a major setback” for the expansion and advancement of higher education in Nigeria, according to The Cable.
Yilgwan asserted that the dissolution violated the Act creating federal universities and would impede the institutions’ development, according to a Premium Times story.
